what I learneD:
Interview by Clementine Moss
I learned that having a huge drum set doesn’t make you a better drummer, it just creates more work for you, and it takes three cars to get your kit to the gig.
Learning to play alongside a busy guitar player—without a bass player—influenced my busy style as I thought I was supposed to be following the guitar lines. It wasn’t until years later that I found out I was supposed to be playing with the bass. Now I just split the difference. But not having a bass player in the beginning was integral to developing my own style.
